This WI-Fi module is part of ESP8266 series which is a high performance wireless System On a Chip (SOC). It is designed for minimal space requirement and offers a complete and standalone WI-Fi networking solution at a lowest possible cost. It can be used to host the application or to offload Wi-Fi networking functions from another application processor.
ESP-01 is one of the most popular Wi-Fi modules in the market that have onboard printed antenna and header block for easy access to pin-outs. It has 2 GPIO Pins (GPIO 0 and GPIO 2). Is has a small form factor (15mm x 15mm) and fits nicely in compact spaces. The module comes with one of the different version of the AT firmware which allows it to work effortlessly with platforms like Arduino.
